Meet Willow
A young artist teaching young artists
Willow is 14, and she comes from five generations of artists. She grew up in her dad Jed Dorsey's studio, and this year she decided to teach what she's learned to other kids.
She painted all four of these paintings herself and recorded every step. Then she and her dad sat down together to talk you through each one.
Willow paints the way she loves to: bold color, loose brushstrokes, and no fussing over perfection. Kids get to make something that looks like real art, not a craft project.

What You'll Need
Use what you already have!
Any acrylic paints, brushes and surface will work.
If you'd like to match Willow exactly, here's what she used.
Paints
Willow uses Golden Heavy Body acrylics:
- Titanium White
- Mars Black
- Cadmium Yellow Light
- Cadmium Orange
- Quinacridone Red
- Ultramarine Blue
- Phthalo Blue
- Phthalo Green
Everything else
- An 8x8 inch board or canvas (a thick-paper sketchbook works too)
- Flat brushes, size 6 and 10, plus a small round brush
- Transfer paper, to trace the template
- An acrylic paint marker, to go over the lines
- A palette, a cup of water, and paper towels
